Prairie Independent Living Resource Center and the Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence Center of Hutchinson have a long and rich history of working together to end violence against people with disabilities.
In 2002, PILR and SA/DVC were part of a federal grant project administered in Kansas to connect centers for independent living and sexual assault and domestic violence organizations. That connection has resulted in significant cultural change within both organizations.
In support of our mutual mission, Dinner & Jazz became a jointly sponsored community event in October highlighting Domestic Violence Awareness month and Disability Employment Awareness month. Dinner & Jazz 2009 was the 8th consecutive year for the event which features the Hutchinson Community College Jazz Combos. Free to the public, this event celebrates our continued dedication to ending violence in the lives of people with disabilities.
