Disability and Violence

People with disabilities experience violence at rates from 2 to 10 times more frequently than the community without disabilities.
As advocates we recognize this reality – either personally or through our work with consumers who are survivors of that violence.
The resources listed here are intended as a starting point in your journey to provide culturally competent services to survivors with disabilities - whether they are provided by a center for independent living or a sexual assault/domestic violence organization.
If the information raises questions, the best way to answer those questions is to talk to the people who may have answers. If CIL advocates and SA/DV advocates can work and learn together, we have a very good start on supporting survivors and ending the violence in our lives.
Anytime is a good time to begin those relationships, but right now is the BEST time to forge new partnerships and work together to make a difference in our world.
